#50 is a dry white wine that is identified solely by the colour, name, a one word description and a QR code that can be read by a smart phone to give the buyer further information about their wine, brand, enterprise and store.
The wine bottles are sleeved before being shipped to the bottling facility and the white colour removes the need for background printing before putting the code on.
Frans Rienks is wine product packaging designer, who was commissioned to create the new wine packaging in the autumn.
“The wine bottle sleeve and its printed design had to remain absolutely distortion-free despite the complex wine bottles shape,” said Rienks.
“The natural matt white finish of the film is ideal for overprinting, and matches the wine colour to create an exclusive appearance for Baarsma.”
As well as being good for custom printing wine boxes graphics, the sleeve also blocks light and UV radiation which are essential to protect container contents. The material’s soft touch ensures the container is pleasant to pick up.
Embrace is said to form successfully around highly complex or contoured wine containers, yet the low shrink force and machine direction growth prevent gaps (smiley faces) at container bases.
Eastman has also highlighted the environmental benefits of the Embrace HY copolymer.
It offers a high yield per unit weight, requiring less material for the same size sleeve compared to other materials, due to the 30% lower density, and it is also free from Bisphenol-A.
The QR code is read using a free downloadable app that can help match the buyer with wine while the website stores information for future purchases.
